Finnair rolls the dice with new Asian freighter service

FINNAIR Cargo has launched a freighter service to Hong Kong and Seoul. The service, first proposed in February, will use a converted MD-11 freighter.
“The growing demand for cargo in the Asian market gives us an opportunity to expand our capacity between Asia and Europe,” said Finnair Cargo’s managing director, Antero Lahtinen.
“Traffic will be directed from Asia mainly to Northern Europe, which is our domestic market area.”
Finnair’s struggling finances received a follow-up punch from the Icelandic ash disruptions, but Finnair’s chief executive officer, Mika Vehvilainen says the carrier remains optimistic.
“We believe that the positive trend, which was…clearly visible at the end of the first quarter will improve the situation in the second half of this year,” he said.
