First -8F to land next month

IT is the day Cargolux has been waiting for – the long-delayed 747-8F will be delivered in September.

Jim Albaugh, head of the Boeing Commercial Airplanes unit, said he expects the certification of the 747F this month, alongside the completion of the 787 flight-test programme by 15 August.

The aircraft manufacturer will also revamp its 777 programme by 2013. Boeing’s plan to revamp its 737 range with new engines rather than build an all-new aircraft will free up engineering resources to upgrade the 777 widebody, providing a bigger contender to rival the A350-1000 from Airbus.
