Hactl savours ‘strong’ Q3

STAKEHOLDERS in Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Ltd (Hactl) have something to smile at after the company revealed cargo volumes rose by 2.1 per cent in the third quarter 2012. 
Hactl handled a total of 697,791 tonnes between July and September this year – the best increase since the post Chinese New Year bounce in March. 
Amid reports of an Asian slow down, one of the world’s leading cargo hub’s described its cumulative results for January to September as ‘positive’ with overall tonnage rising by 0.7 per cent to 2,023,293.
Hactl’s executive director Lilian Chan enthuses: “2012 continues to look positive and to show better results than we originally anticipated. 
“The totals for the year so far would be even stronger had it not been for a disappointing start to 2012.
She continues: “Exports from China are proving more resilient than many predicted, imports are looking better again and transhipments continue to play an increasingly important part in our overall throughput, endorsing Hong Kong’s growing role as Asia’s cargo hub.
“Barring unforeseeable events, 2012 should end better than expected.”
