IAG Cargo’s Ecuador belly cargo service
03 / 09 / 2013
IAG Cargo is to offer belly cargo services on a new Iberia route connecting Quito in Ecuador with its Madrid hub, from October 26.
The route will be serviced by Iberia’s largest passenger aircraft, the A340-600.
The new service has been made possible by the opening of a new facility at Quito.
Through the IAG Cargo network, customers in Ecuador will be able to connect to 350 destinations worldwide.
IAG says that these direct flights to and from Europe provide an important trade link for businesses in, amongst others, the perishable goods sector. Holland and Spain are important export markets for Ecuadorian fresh flowers.
Rodrigo Casal, IAG Cargo’s regional commercial manager, notes that one of the key differentiators for IAG Cargo is its reach into the Latin American market.
“In fact, we offer more flights from Europe to Latin America than any other airline,” he says.
Demand for perishables from the Latin America region remains resilient in Europe, he adds.
