Italy targets forwarders

ITALY’S competition authority is investigating 20 forwarders for price fixing. Among those named are Agility Logistics, DHL Global Forwarding, Gefco, Geodis and Schenker. In a statement the Autorità Garante della Concorrenza e del Mercato (AGCM) said that the companies had “exchanged information about the impact of cost increases to agree the size and method of price increases to be passed on to clients”.The AGCM could not be reached for further information.Meanwhile, the Canadian equivalent of the AGCM has recently decided to drop its freighter fowarder investigation, but the US investigation is continuing. Not only that, but it is also investigating Agility for alleged fraud and threatening a fine of up to US$120 million, with a decision likely to be revealed before Christmas.
