K+N to handle Airbus logistics

KUEHNE + NAGEL and Airbus have extended their partnership over the management of the planemaker’s entire production logistics in France, Germany, Spain, the UK and China for all aircraft programmes.
The Swiss-based global forwarder will further streamline Airbus’ operational processes “to increase efficiency along the supply chain”, says a statement.
Kuehne + Nagel has been performing contract logistics services for Airbus since 2008, although the scope of activities and the geographical range have been extended continuously.
The portfolio of value added services now includes tasks not directly related to Airbus’ core business, such as aircraft section handling, kitting, after sales support and wing wrapping for the A380.
Other milestones in the cooperation with Airbus will be the operation of a new logistics hub which is to be opened in Toulouse later this year.
