LAN Cargo order new freighters

LAN Cargo has signed an order to lease three 767-300 and buy two 777 freighters.

The cargo unit already has the first 767-300F, which was delivered at the start of November. The second will be delivered in December and the third in January. The two 777Fs are scheduled for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2012.

LAN Airlines is currently merging with the Brazilian carrier, TAM. The merger is expected to be completed between April and June, 2011. When finished, the new Latam Airlines Group will be the largest airline group in the region. By the end of 2012, it will have 10 767-300Fs, four 777Fs and two 767Fs.

LAN Cargo says it expects to grow 20 per cent this year and up to 15 per cent next year.
