Launch of new Bolivian airline

BOLIVIA is to launch a new state airline this month, Boliviana de Aviacion (BoA). This fills the space made by the failed and privatized flag carrier Lloyd Aereo last year.

BoA will start with two bought and three leased aircraft but details of the proposed fleet have not been released. The airline will start only as a domestic carrier but it is planning on starting international flights after eight months of operations..

President Evo Morales will invest US$15 million as start-up collateral. He has been quoted as saying that he wants to “democratize air transport in Bolivia” through the airline, although it will operate under commercial conditions and without subsidies.
