Lufthansa Cargo ready for screening ahead of deadline

LUFTHANSA Cargo has achieved full compliance of the new, tougher cargo screening requirements imposed by the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) a full month ahead of the scheduled implementation date.

The carrier can now perform the mandatory 100 per cent screening of outbound cargo shipments transported on passenger aircraft at the 17 American airports it serves.

Harald Zielinski, head of security and environmental management at Lufthansa Cargo recently spoke before Congress about the cargo screening and gave advice about how transatlantic cooperation of the programme could be strengthened, ie the responsible allocation of justified resources in order to invoke the most efficient flow of operations while maintaining a balanced and reliable security environment.

Since then a government audit has raised doubts as to whether the TSA and industry will be able to meet the August deadline at all.
