No truth in rumours, says Air France

AIR France has denounced widely published reports that the carrier is planning on moving out of the airfreight market completely.

Stemming from an inaccurate news story published in the French newspaper Le Figaro, the story has been reported in media outlets around the world. However, Jean-Claude Renaud, an Air France (AF) spokesperson, told Air Cargo News that the information was incorrect.

“Contrary to what Le Figaro suggested, AF has no intention of stopping its freighter activity. AF confirms that it will keep its five freighter aircrafts (three B747-400 ERFs and two B777Fs) in order to achieve its normal cargo schedule.”

The story perhaps came on the tails of the carrier’s painful reported losses, as reported in the last issue of Air Cargo News. Air France announced that it lost a record US$545 million last year from its cargo business.
