Panalpina profit up by a quarter

A VOLUME increase of six per cent has lifted Panalpina’s gross profits –
per ton of airfreight cargo – by 24 per cent in the first quarter.

Pre-tax profit for the group rose to CHF 10 million (US$11.6 million).

“We have been able to take advantage of the measures we put in place last year which have enabled us to improve our profitability,” chief executive officer Monika Ribar commented. “In the first quarter, gross profit grew across all segments and recorded strong increases in all regions, led by the emerging economies in Asia Pacific and Latin America. Gross profit per ton recorded double-digit growth despite the adverse impact from the strong Swiss franc.”
