Police arrest Miami cargo workers for drug smuggling

DRUG smugglers have once again infiltrated Miami International Airport’s cargo workers raising questions of how secure cargo really is at the airport.

Federal agents arrested 15 people for importing cocaine and heroin on freighters from Colombia, Panama and Venezuela, seizing over 200 kgs of cocaine, four kilos of heroin and US$74,000 in cash, but the true amounts smuggled over the ring’s five-year operation can only be guessed at.

This is the fourth major smuggling operation broken up amongst cargo workers at the airport since 1999.
