Qatar joins Cargo 2000

CARGO 2000’s program to improve the quality of air cargo is increasing its coverage of the Middle East following Qatar Airways Cargo’s decision to become a regional associate member.

The Doha-based airline says membership of Cargo 2000 will allow Qatar Airways Cargo to monitor its quality and delivery standards on the basis of the most highly-regarded industry standard.

Qatar Airways chief executive officer, Akbar Al Baker, said: “Our goal is to increase efficiency and quality of service provided to the airline’s customers with proven and agreed processes, and Cargo 2000’s quality management system offers a proven solution for implementation and measurement.”

Lothar Moehle, Cargo 2000’s regional director for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, said: “The Middle East has seen the emergency of some of the air cargo industry’s foremost air cargo carriers in recent years and quality is clearly high on their agenda. In addition to Qatar Airways, Cargo 2000’s airline members in the region are Egyptair, Etihad and Saudi Arabian Airlines.

“We are aware of the strong feedback Qatar Airways gained from a global customer survey carried out late last year but it is the sign of a quality-focused company that they are continually looking to improve their business for their customers and, as part of this process, benefit from cost efficiencies that come from more efficient and measurable operations.

“The airline has also listened to its key freight forwarder customers who are members of Cargo 2000 and they have encouraged Qatar Airways to join. They are a valuable addition to our group.”
