Silencers and sniper sights seized at Chennai

CHENNAI Customs has seized a consignment of sniper rifle sights and silencers that came in on a cargo aircraft from Dubai.

Police have arrested a courier called Vijayan, who the consignment, which was marked as toys, was addressed to when he came to the airport’s cargo section to collect them. They have also arrested two clearing agents who were involved in the shipment.

“There are many unanswered questions,” said a police source. “Sniper rifles are used in the forces only by highly-trained commandos in the country. Professional assassins, too, use them.”
