Turkey restricts Israeli freighters
27 / 02 / 2012
TURKEY is imposing airspace restrictions on Israeli freighters carrying hazardous goods.
El Al and CAL and many other airlines, which regularly fly in and out of Israel, will be subject to the new restrictions covering cargo from batteries to flammable materials like fragrances requiring special storage procedures.
Turkey now demands a 10-day notification period for such flights.
El Al and CAL have already contacted the Civil Aviation Administration of Israel, asking the authorities to respond to the Turkish move with similar restrictions on Turkish flights.
Turkey has frozen diplomatic relations and suspended military ties with Israel following the Israeli killing of eight Turks and one Turkish American on an aid ship that was trying to break Israeli blockade of Gaza in May 2010.
