US airports weather the storm

CARGO operations at airports on the US east coast suffered fewer setbacks than expected over the weekend of 27 August, as advancing Hurricane Irene was downgraded to a tropic storm.

Most airports faced only a two-day closure with some 11,000 flights grounded.

After closing on August 27, John F. Kennedy International (pictured), LaGuardia and Newark Liberty International airports reopened to both arriving and departing flights on 29 August.

Delta Cargo has resumed flights after suspending freight service to airports including Baltimore/Washington International Airport, JFK airport and Virginia’s Richmond International Airport.
