Uzbekistan to get central Asian hub

OFFICIALS have signed a deal to develop the Navoi International Airport in Uzbekistan into a central Asian logistics hub. The Hanjin Group and the local government finalised the specifics of the deal, put forward earlier in the year, in Tashkent last week.

Under the deal the project will take ten years to reach completion, split into two phases of five years each. Phase one will involve building the airport infrastructure, such as cargo terminal facilities, equipment and ground transport network connections. Phase two will focus on developing air cargo capacity, expanding the air cargo network and attracting global logistic companies.
