Singapore Changi Airport handled 516,000 tonnes of airfreight in the second quarter of this year, a 6.2% increase over the same period of last year.
Coming at a time of what it pointed out were significant global trade uncertainties, Changi recorded growth across all types of cargo flow, with imports posting the strongest performance, up by 8% compared to the second quarter of 2024.
Changi’s top five air cargo markets over the period were China, the US, Hong Kong, Australia, and India.
Services newly launched or reinstated during the three months included Scoot’s inaugural flight to Vienna, which launched on 3 June. Scoot is the low-cost carrier subsidiary of Singapore Airlines (SIA).
The airline also announced new or resumed services to several Southeast Asian cities, including Da Nang, Kota Bharu, Nha Trang, and Labuan Bajo, as well as Okinawa in Japan.
As of 1 July, some 100 airlines operated more than 7,200 weekly scheduled flights through Changi, connecting Singapore to 170 cities in 50 countries and territories around the world.
Last year, the airport handled just under 2m tonnes of freight, which represents a 14.6% increase compared with a year earlier.
