Ireland-based freighter company Magma Aviation plans to increase its freighter fleet by the end of the year and will continue to focus on expanding markets.

Chief executive Peter Kerins said the freighter firm is continuing its strategy of focusing on new, underserved destinations instead of competing in saturated markets.

Asia and Africa remain lucrative air cargo markets and the company continues to seek out network expansion in these continents.

This strategy of looking to emerging markets that demand reliable service yet currently have limited options is helping Magma establish strategic partnerships and a more balanced, resilient network, said the company.

Magma is also continuing to expand its fleet. The freighter operator recently added a 747 freighter operated by Atlas Air to its fleet. The aircraft is in addition to Magma’s current fleet of two 747-400 Boeing Converted Freighters (BCF) and one 747-400F, all operated by Air Atlanta.

The company eventually plans to triple its freighter fleet by 2030 with the addition of further 747Fs and 777Fs.

Kerins said: “Our biggest goal now is to add more aircraft into our fleet ensuring that we get the right price and right lease rates. We have just recently increased our capacity in August, and we intend to increase it again before the end of the year."

Part of Avia Solutions Group, the world’s largest ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance) provider, Magma is headquartered in Dublin and has hubs in Dubai and Gatwick.
