IAG Cargo is now offering SkyCell 1500X containers as part of its cold chain Constant Climate service for pharmaceuticals such as vaccines and biologics.

The 1500X series reduces CO2 emissions by up to 50%, said the company. The self-charging units offer up to 270 hours of independent runtime, which can be extended in cold rooms or reefer trucks, giving protection in the face of extreme weather or unexpected delays.

IAG Cargo's head of pharmaceutical Jordan Kohlbeck commented: “IAG Cargo’s approval of SkyCell containers was achieved through extensive collaboration and cross-functional teamwork within our organisation.

"The pharmaceutical industry demands innovative, sustainable solutions they can rely on, and … the addition of SkyCell enables us to offer customers access to a full suite of approved temperature-controlled packaging solutions that meet the highest of standards.”

The London Heathrow-based carrier said that the SkyCell 1500X series is more environmentally sustainable thanks to its low volumetric weight, which cuts CO2 emissions by up to 50% per shipment. It has also been designed for reusability and repairability.

IAG Cargo, which includes the British Airways, Aer Lingus and Iberia brands, offers its Constant Climate service to six continents via its hubs in London, Madrid, Dublin and Barcelona.

IAG Cargo reported a 21% year-on-year increase in the volume of perishable goods transported during the first half of 2025.
