Liege Airport (LGG) and Chicago Rockford International Airport (RFD) have signed a new agreement to increase freighter traffic, launch joint marketing and sales initiatives and collaborate on operational and digital projects.

The sister airport relationship agreement, announced during the recent air cargo Southeast Asia (ACSEA) conference and exhibition in Singapore, is expected to accelerate growth and deepen ties between the two logistics hubs.

The agreement has established a formal framework for close cooperation with the goal of increasing freighter traffic between both airports, launching joint marketing and sales initiatives to attract new cargo operators and logistics partners to both platforms and collaborating on operational and digital projects to streamline processes and enhance service quality.

The agreement was signed in the presence of senior executives from both airports and industry leaders attending ACSEA.

“This agreement is a testament to our shared vision for the future of air cargo,” said Torsten Wefers, vice president sales & marketing at LGG. “Together with Chicago Rockford International Airport, we are building a robust transatlantic corridor that will benefit shippers, carriers, and the global supply chain.”

LGG registered a 23% year-on-year increase in volumes during the third quarter to 334,956 tonnes on the back of a 9% increase in aircraft movements to 7,262.

“Liege and Rockford are both cargo-centric airports with complementary strengths,” added Zachary Oakley, executive director of RFD. “This partnership formalises our collaboration and sets the stage for exciting new opportunities.”

New partnerships with cargo carriers helped RFD achieve a 1.5% year on year increase in cargo volumes in 2024.
