Belgian hub records 334,956 tonnes in Q3 with aircraft movements up 9% to 7,262, with nine-month volumes reaching 961,640 tonnes

Liege Airport continued to see its cargo volumes increase in the third quarter of the year as both imports and exports were on the rise.
The Belgian hub registered a 23% year-on-year increase in volumes during the third quarter to 334,956 tonnes on the back of a 9% increase in aircraft movements to 7,262.
Chief executive Laurent Jossart added that over the first nine months of the year, cargo volumes are up by 14.4% on the same period last year to 961,640 tons, which it claimed made it Europe's top "full-freighter" airport.
"The growth of the last quarter was fueled by healthy flows of e-commerce for the import side but also by the robustness of the European exports flown via Liege Airport, with a quarterly growth of 26% vs. last year,” the airport said.
"This progression mirrors the increasing importance of Liege Airport for the European export industry.”
Liège is the fifth-largest cargo airport in Europe and the only European gateway to prioritise freighter operations.
It specialises in the transport of perishable goods, pharmaceutical products, medical equipment, express parcels, e-commerce, medical and humanitarian equipment and live animals.
In June, Liège announced its intention to invest €500m in its CargoLand hub, which is set for completion in 2040.
