Charles Ngwalla moves from head of alliances role to lead strategic partnerships and cargo product design across African and intercontinental markets

Nairobi-based cargo airline Astral Aviation has promoted Charles Ngwalla to head of interline, partnerships & product development.
Ngwalla, who was previously head of alliances and key accounts at Astral, began his new role within the Kenyan airline last month.
He is responsible for leading "the development of strategic interline and airline partnerships, as well as the design and rollout of cargo products that support Astral’s growth, network relevance, and yield optimisation", said Astral in a LinkedIn post on 9 January.
The role bridges commercial strategy, operations, and partner execution across intra-African and intercontinental markets.
Prior to his four-year period as head of alliances and key accounts, Ngwalla was manager of key accounts and alliances at Astral.
Before joining the cargo airline, he had worked for Kenya Airways since 2007.
Astral added: "We congratulate Charles Ngwalla on this expanded responsibility and look forward to the impact this role will deliver as we move into 2026."
In October last year, Astral appointed Darryl Judd as executive director and chief strategy & transformation officer (CSTO). Based in Dubai, Judd will operate across Astral’s businesses in Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Australia.
In 2025, Astral continued to build frequencies in its network and added a Haikou, China to Johannesburg, South Africa route.
