Cargo handler Shanghai Pudong International Airport Cargo Terminal (PACTL) has become the latest member of Cargo iQ, the not-for-profit quality standards group that works to create and implement specifications to enhance customer experience in the global airfreight industry.

PACTL serves more than 70 airlines and over 300 forwarders. It handled over 2m tons of cargo last year.

Through membership of Cargo iQ and the use of its standardised processes and performance metrics, PACTL will hope to deliver improved service reliability, enhanced tracking capabilities and optimised supply chain management to its customers.

Carsten Hernig, deputy general manager, vice president sales & marketing and production at PACTL, explained: “By joining Cargo iQ, PACTL is demonstrating its commitment to operational excellence and customer satisfaction; it can use the performance management standards across the airlines they serve and regulate their own performance through transparent metrics.

“As a neutral cargo terminal operator, we are proud to align with international standards that promote measurable quality and accountability,” he continued.

“This membership not only strengthens our service commitment to our customers and partners but also empowers us to contribute more actively to shaping a smarter and more connected airfreight future.”

Marie Seco-Köppen, executive director of Cargo iQ, added: “I foresee that both PACTL and the wider Cargo iQ membership will benefit from this addition.

“By joining Cargo iQ, PACTL is demonstrating its commitment to operational excellence and customer satisfaction; it can use the performance management standards across the airlines they serve and regulate their own performance through transparent metrics,” she opined.

Cargo iQ is supported by IATA as one of its interest groups. Its biannual working group will take place over 25 and 26 of June, an event where members will explore how industry standards can encourage efficiency in air cargo.

PACTL works with LCSLM

Earlier this month (June), cargo handlers PACTL and Lufthansa Cargo Servicios Logísticos De México (LCSLM) signed a partnership that aims to develop cargo services between Mexico and China in response to rising demand between the two countries.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by the companies - both part of Lufthansa Cargo – during the Air Cargo Europe exhibition in Munich and will see the two companies focus on developing e-commerce and other key import commodities between the two countries.

PACTL’s facilities in Shanghai are designed to handle a wide range of cargo, including perishables, pharmaceuticals and e-commerce shipments as well as general cargo.
