Following on from the recent confirmation by the International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) of one winner of the seventh iteration of its Air Cargo Sustainability Awards, as reported yesterday in Air Cargo News, the association has now revealed the three finalists in the Start-Up/Small Business section of the awards.
The winner in the Corporate and established business category has been named as Belgium’s Ostend-Bruges Airport, which was chosen for its biodiversity programme, and the three finalists in the Start-Up/Small Business category have now been named as:
· bioaqualife for its bioWrap
· Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics (IML) for its Digital Testbed Air Cargo (DTAC)
· Goods2Load for its Smart B2B Logistics Platform
Each of the three will be invited to present at TIACA’s global Air Cargo Forum, where the live audience will decide the ultimate winner in this category by voting on the presentations they see.
The winner will receive $10,000 prize and the two runners-up will receive $2,500 each.
‘Outstanding businesses and industry initiatives’
The awards aim to recognise outstanding businesses and industry initiatives seeking to make air cargo more sustainable.
The Start-Up and Small Business category recognises and encourages young growing businesses as well as small businesses that are building their footprint in the air cargo industry and contributing to its sustainability transformation.
Jury/panel members evaluated submissions on a number of criteria, including impact on society and industry, ease of implementation, innovation and the ‘wow factor’.
The awards are run by TIACA in partnership with logistics IT solution provider CHAMP Cargosystems.
Chris McDermott, CHAMP’s chief executive, stated: “We were greatly impressed by the range and standard of this year’s submissions.
“It is very encouraging to see such a high level of innovation and investment, demonstrating a strong commitment to making our industry more sustainable.”
Glyn Hughes, TIACA’s director general, noted: “This year, we received an impressive range of unique submissions – it’s a true reflection of the ingenuity and innovation our industry is capable of when focused on solving real-world challenges.”
And TIACA chair Steven Polmans added: “Our three finalists – bioaqualife, Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics (IML) and Goods2Load – represent some of the best thinking in sustainable air cargo solutions today.
“The competition is strong, and we’re excited to see their presentations live during the Executive Summit 2025.”
The awards ceremony will be conducted during the upcoming Executive Summit 2025 to be held in Hong Kong between June 24 and 26.
Awards will be given to the Corporate and Start-up/Small Business winners as well as the two runners-up.
