UK-based freight carrier joins growing list of airlines adopting shared ULD management, with Unilode's global pool now exceeding 200,000 units

European Cargo – the world’s only A340-600 converted passenger-to-freighter aircraft operator – has become the latest customer of Unilode Aviation Solutions’ ULD pooling services.
The UK-based freight carrier is set to benefit from digitalised ULD pooling management solution across its cargo operations, Unilode’s digital tracking technologies offering real-time visibility, improved utilisation and accurate sustainability reporting.
The cooperation is expected to reduce logistics, repair and repositioning costs, while improving operational flexibility.
“This partnership will provide European Cargo with the focus, agility, and flexibility needed to support its growth strategy through our pooling concept,” declared Mohammed Akhlaq, chief commercial officer at Unilode.
“By leveraging our shared ULD management solutions, European Cargo can enhance and accelerate its expansion while staying aligned with its sustainability and digital transformation goals.”
Lionel Marais, cargo manager at European Cargo, added: “This collaboration gives us the flexibility to scale our operations, optimise ULD management, and advance our commitment to sustainable and digital growth.”
At the end of last month (October), Royal Brunei Airlines and Unilode announced a new partnership that will see the latter introduce ULD pooling across the carrier’s global operations.
The airline will transition from managing its own ULD fleet to joining Unilode’s global digitised ULD pool, enabling what Unilode describes as “more flexible, data-driven, cost-efficient, and environmentally responsible cargo and baggage ULD operations”.
American Airlines Cargo, Riyadh Air and Thai Airways have also opted for Unilode’s end-to-end ULD management and pooling solution in recent months.
Unilode noted that this ongoing expansion strengthens the global pool of shared ULD assets, now surpassing 200,000 ULDs across more than 500 airports worldwide.
“By combining resources and data-driven insights for all, Unilode’s model is redefining the concept of ULD management, driving greater operational efficiency, enabling digital transformation, and advancing the aviation industry’s collective sustainability goals,” the company said in a statement.
