Avianca Cargo-owned Mexican airline AeroUnion has announced a new brand, Avianca Cargo Mexico, to help connect Mexico and the US West Coast with global airfreight hubs.
Headquartered at Mexico City International Airport, AeroUnion operates cargo services within and between Mexico and the US.
The new brand aims to strengthen AeroUnion and Avianca Cargo's route network and serve key verticals, including technology, automotive, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, personal care and perishables.
Providing capacity will be two AeroUnion-operated Airbus A330-300 passenger to freighter (P2F) aircraft, the second of which arrived in Mexico on 20 June. With a capacity of more than 60 tons, this freighter will enable the transport of oversized and temperature-controlled cargo.
The two A330P2Fs will be used in addition to Avianca Cargo’s six A330Fs.
The additional capacity is expected to help position Mexico as a strategic hub for markets such as the US and Colombia, as well as offering network growth opportunities with commercial partners to connect countries such as Brazil, Chile, Argentina and other destinations in Asia and Europe.
“We celebrate the launch of the new Avianca Cargo Mexico brand, which offers the capacity, commercial alliances and interline agreements of each company to enhance the joint offer and expand connectivity to more than 350 destinations around the world,” said Diogo Elias, chief executive of Avianca Cargo.
“This achievement is, above all, the result of the talent, passion and dedication of each of our employees. Thanks to their commitment, today we have built a new brand that connects the world, expands our network and allows us to begin a new chapter in our history,” added Danilo Correa, chief executive of Avianca Cargo Mexico.
AeroUnion operates independently from Avianca, retaining its own capital structure, operating permits, corporate governance and its own independent technical, labour, administrative and financial resources.
Avianca recently announced a partnership with Amazon Air Cargo that will see it provide Amazon with a daily Boeing 767-300 freighter charter operation between Miami and Bogotá to enhance airfreight capacity between the US and Latin America.
