Boeing recorded a total of 15 777 freighter orders and 35 777 freighter deliveries last year as it seeks an emissions exemption to enable it to continue selling 777 freighters beyond the end of 2027.

FedEx ordered a total of eight 777Fs, Qatar Airways ordered one 777F, while a further three unidentified customers ordered a total of two 777Fs each.

Last year also proved to be busy for deliveries, with 777Fs handed over to a 15 companies in total.

Deliveries were made to Aerotranscargo (2), Air China Cargo (2), Atlas Air Worldwide (2), CES Leasing Corporation (4), China Airlines (1), China Southern Airlines (2), CMA CGM (2), DHL Aviation Americas (6), Emirates (3), Ethiopian Airlines (2), FedEx (2), Qatar Airways (1), Silk Way West Airlines (1), Turkish Airlines (3) and Yangtze River Finance Leasing Co., Ltd (2).

Boeing demonstrated it was keen to continue selling 777Fs beyond the end of 2027 when it filed an emissions exemption petition with the US Department of Transportation (DOT) at the end of last year.

The US aircraft manufacturer officially filed the petition for exemption with the US DOT on 19 December, with a view to selling 35 more 777Fs.

Without an exemption, these aircraft would not be eligible for a Certificate of Airworthiness from 1 January 2028 because they do not comply with fuel efficiency limits to curb emissions.

If granted, the exemption will help Boeing bridge the gap until its new generation 777-8F comes to market.

The 777-8F was originally anticipated to come to market in 2027, but Boeing said in October 2024 that it would delay the aircraft's entry to market until 2028.
