Vienna Airport has continued to see cargo volumes increase as the year has progressed, thanks to rising export volumes.

Over the first nine months of the year, the Austrian airport has seen its cargo volumes increase by 8% to 233,233 tonnes.

Bellyhold cargo on passenger aircraft rose by 2% year on year to 92,604 tonnes by the end of September, with July registering an increase of 12% and July a 10% increase.

Import volumes rose by 5% to 125,284 tonnes, while exports grew by 11% to 107,949 tonnes.

The Vienna Pharma Handling Center also recorded gains as the tonnage handled there increased by 7.4% to 3,307 tonnes.

Michael Zach, senior vice president ground handling & cargo operations at Vienna Airport, said: “Vienna is a logistics competence centre for a wide range of cargo segments—from traditional airfreight and e-commerce to sensitive pharmaceutical transports.

"The current volume increases show that we are well-positioned in the market. Thanks to efficient processes, high service quality, and an experienced team, we are well equipped to handle further growth professionally in the future."

Earlier this month, the airport welcomed another cargo carrier when recently launched Korean carrier AirZeta selected Vienna Airport as its European hub.

The airline will operate six Boeing 747 flights per week between Vienna and Incheon Airport, with target markets including automotive parts, battery materials, high-value industrial components, electronics, pharmaceuticals, and e-commerce consignments.
