Cargo volumes at Frankfurt Airport rose 3.7% year on year in July, in contrast to the slower growth seen over the first half of the year.
The German airport's cargo volumes increased to 179,055 metric tons last month, reported airport operator Fraport.
There were 42,657 takeoffs and landings. This equates to growth of 5.3%. The total maximum takeoff weights were around 2.6m metric tons.
This represented an increase of 2.3% compared with the same month in 2024, said Fraport.
However, data from Airports Council International (ACI) Europe shows that over the first six months of the year Frankfurt increased its cargo volumes by just 1% year on year to 968,427 tonnes.
Frankfurt has seen some major air cargo developments this year. In June, DHL Global Forwarding officially opened its 300,000 ton capacity airfreight hub at the airport.
Kuehne+Nagel and SATS, parent company of Worldwide Flight Services (WFS), also recently began a pilot project at the airport to improve warehousing and trucking efficiency there.
While ACI Europe figures show Frankfurt did have positive growth over the first half, the best results compared to last year came from Liege (10.2%), Madrid (8.9%) and Cologne (3.5%).
Overall, ACI Europe figures show that over the first six months of the year, cargo volumes at European airports increased by 0.6% compared with last year.
In May, the Board of Airline Representatives in Germany (Barig) and German Aviation Association (BDL) called for the cost of cargo operations to be lowered and the removal of bureaucracy in order to secure the competitiveness of Germany as an airfreight location.
