Heathrow moved 1.5m tonnes in 2025, up 0.8% year on year, as UK cargo surged 29.7% and North America rose 4.6%

Heathrow Airport’s air cargo volumes in 2025 were up 0.8% year on year, helped by a large rise in UK volumes.
The UK’s largest airport and biggest hub for cargo moved 1.5m tonnes of air cargo in 2025 compared to 2024.
UK cargo volumes were up 29.7%, while North America volumes increased 4.6%, Asia Pacific volumes rose 2.3% and Latin America volumes increased 2%.
Notably, traffic was down 13.8% in the EU and 4.8% in the Middle East.
"From goods to mail, the year-on-year weight carried increased by 12,600 tonnes in 2025, cementing the airport’s role as the biggest UK port by value," said Heathrow.
Meanwhile, December’s air cargo volumes totalled 138,000 tonnes, up 0.2% year on year. The 6th, 14th, and 20th of the month set "2025’s top three records for cargo handling", said Heathrow.
Heathrow chief executive Thomas Woldbye said: "With the Government’s support for our expansion plans, and the right regulatory framework from the CAA to secure private investment, we can unlock even more of that connectivity, trade and economic growth for the UK.”
Heathrow is in the process of investing heavily in its infrastructure and air cargo operations.
Heathrow Airport Limited’s (HAL) scheme for a new runway at the airport was selected by the government in November. The plans include a 3.5 km runway and building a tunnel under the development through which the M25 motorway will run.
The airport is also using a participatory stakeholder approach as it continues to redevelop its ‘Horseshoe’ cargo area and supports the rollout of the CCS-UK AIS (Advance Information System) portal for booking and monitoring trucks.
