Logistics services provider GEODIS has opened a new office in Guadalajara, Mexico.
The office is intended to support the company’s expanding growing Mexico operations. It will integrate the company’s Americas Center of Excellence (CoE), a strategic hub that handles key logistics operations for the entire Americas region, into the country’s product portfolio.
The CoE’s many roles include acting as the largest Shared Services Center for GEODIS in the region, responsible for supporting all its lines of business in areas such as accounting processes, supply chain engineering, operational logistics and control tower.
With operations already consolidated in Mexico City, Querétaro, State of Mexico and El Salto, Jalisco, GEODIS in Mexico will now centralise its freight forwarding services (including maritime, air and inland) as well as Customs and international trade, project logistics and supply chain management within this new location.
Miguel Muñoz, managing director of GEODIS in Mexico, remarked: “The unveiling of our new office in Guadalajara marks a significant milestone for our operations in the country, where we have had a presence for nearly 20 years.
“Not only are we able to expand our growing freight forwarding line of business in the region with this new location, but we are adding new logistics solutions to our product portfolio to best support our customers.
“This new facility is a direct reflection of our ongoing commitment to growth in the region.”
Logistics hub
GEODIS chose Guadalajara to be the base for the second-largest GEODIS operations centre in Mexico because of the region’s growing importance as a logistics hub.
For example, GEODIS operates a direct twice-weekly airfreight service from China and Hong Kong to Guadalajara, in addition to offering strategic connections from the port of Manzanillo and various corridors to the US and Canada, which facilitate the opportunities for nearshoring in the region.
GEODIS also maintains warehouses and consolidation centres in Guadalajara, making it a logistics hub for the company.
GEODIS specialises in four lines of business: global freight forwarding, global contract logistics, distribution & express transport, and its European Road Network. It operates a global network spanning nearly 170 countries.
Earlier this month (June), GEODIS launched GEODIS AirSmart, a new low carbon solution designed to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions related to airfreight.
The launch took place at the transport logistic trade fair in Munich.
GEODIS AirSmart selects the most energy-efficient aircraft and routeing possible to minimise GHG emissions.
