Baku-headquartered Silk Way West has taken delivery of its latest Boeing 777 freighter as part of its fleet renewal programme.
The 777F was delivered to Baku directly from the Boeing factory in Seattle and is the third in an order for five of the aircraft placed in 2021.
The airline added an additional 777 freighter order in March of last year.
The remaining freighters will be delivered by 2027 and will gradually replace older aircraft in the fleet to improve operational efficiency.
As well as its order for 777Fs, the airline also has orders for two Airbus A350Fs and two Boeing 777-8Fs, which are also due for delivery by 2030.
”This step aligns with the company’s ongoing efforts to meet its environmental goals, including reducing carbon emissions and improving fuel efficiency across its operations,” the airline said in a press release.
Wolfgang Meier, president of Silk Way West Airlines, said: “The arrival of our third Boeing 777F represents another important step in our long-term growth strategy.
“By expanding our fleet with modern, fuel-efficient aircraft, we are not only enhancing our global service offering but also reinforcing our commitment to environmental responsibility. This investment supports both our customers’ evolving needs and our vision for sustainable growth in the years ahead.”
According to Planespotters.net, the airline’s current fleet includes a further two Boeing 777F, five Boeing 747-8F, and five 747-400Fs based at Heydar Aliyev International Airport.
Its network covers over 40 destinations across Europe, the CIS, the Middle East, Central and Eastern Asia, and the Americas.
In line with its fleet expansion, the carrier is also planning to build a new cargo airport in Azerbaijan.
