Canadian airline WestJet has appointed Sabir Ebrahim to the role of head of cargo operations.

In his new role, which he started earlier this year, Ebrahim will be responsible for making sure the airline’s cargo operations run smoothly and also comply with safety and security requirements.

”Through close collaboration with colleagues and service partners, Sabir and his team will identify areas for improvement in day-to-day operations, leading to even greater operational performance,” the airline said in a press release.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Ebrahim joined the airline in 2023 as manager for cargo pricing and systems.

He previously worked at Qatar Cargo for just over a year and a half in various pricing roles and previously worked for Emirates SkyCargo as cargo pricing officer for 15 years and dnata in cargo operations for five years.

Julius Mooney, WestJet Cargo’s director of commercial, said: “Sabir’s extensive cargo experience in pricing and operations, and his passion for detail and numbers, are a perfect blend for WestJet Cargo to achieve maximum efficiency.

“He combines the operational and commercial aspects of running a cargo airline, and sees the entire picture.”

Ebrahim added: “By building strong internal and external relationships and gaining deep insight into our current processes and partnerships, we can identify opportunities where we can work together to enhance operational efficiency and uphold our commitment to excellence.

“The foundation is already laid: the strength and professionalism of our team is our greatest asset. Their commitment is exceptional.”

Earlier this year, WestJet appointed Amanda Ierfino as its new vice president for sales and cargo in part to oversee the airline’s switch from a combination carrier to dedicated bellyhold operations.
