Colombian carrier deploys 61-tonne capacity aircraft on Quito-Miami-Maastricht-Zaragoza loop service, adding to recent cargo wins at the Dutch airport

Columbian airline Avianca Cargo has added two weekly freighter flights to Maastricht Aachen Airport to cater for flower volumes.
The new call is part of a service operating on a loop of Quito, Miami, Maastricht, and Zaragoza and will utilise Airbus A330 freighters with a maximum payload capacity of around 61 tons.
The service will import flowers from South America to Europe and export clothing for a prominent high-street fashion chain in Europe.
"In October 2025, we will begin transporting cargo from Latin America to Maastricht, a key connection point, and we look forward to continuing to grow at this strategic hub,” said María Ximena Marín Morales, communication manager, business units, Avianca.
The new flights follow a spate of recent cargo wins for the Dutch airport.
Most recently, My Freighter added a new, twice-weekly Boeing 767-300 full freighter service connecting Shanghai, Tashkent, Almaty, and the Netherlands.
“We are proud that, after My Freighter, Avianca Cargo has now also chosen Maastricht Aachen Airport,” said Dean Boljuncic, head of commercial development, Maastricht Aachen Airport.
“With every new route, we increase the international connectivity of our airport."
In the first eight months of 2025, Maastricht Aachen has registered a 25% year-on-year increase in cargo volumes.
As well as My Freighter, volumes have been boosted by the expansion of operations by Turkish Cargo and Emirates SkyCargo, as well as the arrival of Ethiopian Cargo.
