The Royal Schiphol Group has appointed Eduard Molkenboer as its new head of cargo, starting on 5 August.
Molkenboer has more than 30 years of experience in supply chain management, including 25 years in executive roles across both corporate and private equity environments.
“He has a proven track record in leading complex transformations and achieving sustainable growth,” said the airport operator. “His previous roles at companies such as [textile leasing firm] CleanLease and DHL Supply Chain highlight his expertise in logistics, customer focus, and innovation.”
Molkenboer spent more than 12 years working for the DHL Group, mostly in the supply chain division where he eventually landed the role of head of strategic products for Europe Middle East and Africa. He left DHL in 2013 and has not worked in cargo and logistics since then.
The company said that the appointment of Molkenboer was an important step in implementing its renewed cargo strategy.
”This strategy was developed in close collaboration with the cargo community and focuses on optimising the supply chain, increasing load factors, and strengthening cooperation with partners such as Cargonaut and Maastricht Aachen Airport,” Royal Schiphol Group said.
“We warmly welcome Eduard and look forward to working together to further strengthen Schiphol’s future-proof cargo position.”
The last head of cargo, Joost van Doesburg, left the role late last year after business-related criticism of Schiphol became personal towards him, according to the Royal Schiphol Group.
The slot-constrained airport faces the challenge of maintaining cargo volumes while freighter operations come under pressure as a result of the rules around the allocation of slots.
The local cargo community had previously expressed it would like to see more done to protect freighter operations at the airport.
