Danish freight forwarder continues geographical expansion with Cairo office opening, appointing industry veteran Ahmed Habib as general manager

Scan Global Logistics (SGL) has continued its geographical expansion with the opening of a new office in Egypt.
The freight forwarder said the new office opening is part of its strategy to expand its presence in the Middle East, North Africa, Turkey (MENAT) region.
In the region, the company already has offices in Saudi Arabia, UAE and Turkey.
The new office is in Cairo and the company said that it hoped to add additional locations in the country in the coming six to 12 months.
Ahmed Habib, who brings over 20 years of experience in the logistics industry, including roles at Damco, Maersk, and FedEx, has been appointed as general manager and will lead SGL in the new location.
Allan Melgaard, global chief executive of SGL, said: "We are excited to strengthen our presence and foothold in the MENAT region by expanding into Egypt.
"With a clear vision for growth in the Middle East, North Africa, and Türkiye, we are well-positioned to lead the logistics sector in the region, offering unparalleled services and innovative solutions to serve our customers.”
The company said that the logistics and warehousing market in Egypt was valued at around EGP110bn in 2023, with “projections indicating strong growth through 2029”.
"Egypt’s consistent economic growth is supported by government-led initiatives that focus on infrastructure improvements, regulatory reforms, and trade facilitation, all aimed at establishing the country as an international logistics and trade hub,” SGL said. “This makes Egypt an ideal location for SGL’s regional expansion.”
SGL's expansion into Egypt follows hot on the heels of its first office in India, announced last week.
Over the past year, SGL has strengthened its presence through key acquisitions, including Blu Brasil in Brazil, Foppiani Shipping & Logistics in Italy, and ITN Logistics in Canada.
