Carlos Herrera has been appointed to the role of managing director at Mexican cargo airline Awesome Cargo and will aim to grow operations, improve service and efficiency.

Herrera has more than 27 years of experience in the aviation industry, including strategic leadership roles, said Awesome Cargo in a LinkedIn post last week.

The carrier said: "In his new capacity as managing director of Awesome Cargo, he will be responsible for overseeing the airline's operations and driving forward strategies aimed at growth, efficiency and service excellence.

"We are confident that his vision and extensive experience will be instrumental in leading Awesome Cargo to new heights."

Herrera was previously chief commercial officer at Mexico-based handler Aerocharter, which offers air services through the network of flights operated by VivaAerobus on domestic and international routes.

As well as his five years working for Aerocharter, Herrera's logistics career has also included over 10 years at Mas Air, latterly as commercial manager.

He has also worked for low-cost carrier Volaris, Aeromexico Cargo, ECS Group and Logikoss, an air cargo booking platform for freight forwarders.

Awesome moves general cargo, pharma, e-commerce, live animals and perishables shipments. It also offers Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance and Insurance (ACMI), CMI and charter options.

The airline currently offers domestic routes, as well as flights to Asia Pacific and Latin America.
