New SmartTape technology provides gate-level visibility and autonomous intervention capabilities, initially covering premium services at major hubs

Delta has launched a new shipment tracking service that it hopes will provide greater visibility of cargo and enable it to react more quickly to any issues that may arise.
The Pulse platform has been developed by technology firm Trackonomy and will provide customers with real-time location information from airport to airport using a "SmartTape tag" that is attached to shipments.
The platform also alerts Delta Cargo’s operations teams to any potential disruption or delay, enabling "faster response, reduced delays, and improved customer confidence”.
"Pulse represents a major leap forward in how cargo moves through our network,” said Andy Kirschner, director of Americas sales, Delta Cargo.
“By leveraging Trackonomy’s advanced visibility and AI-driven alerting technology, we’re able to not just identify issues before they happen but at times resolve them autonomously, so every shipment moves with greater reliability and confidence.”
The system integrates Delta’s Cargo IQ-compliant data, real-time flight information, and third-party sources such as FlightAware to enable “predictive analytics and autonomous intervention”.
"The system enables gate-level cargo visibility, real-time status updates, and predictive recovery insights—creating a seamless flow of data from ramp to cloud. Its plug-and-play deployment eliminates complex integrations and scales easily across airports, introducing a new standard of intelligent tracking for airfreight," the two companies said in a press release.
Pulse is currently available for shipments being transported on Delta's time-critical DASH and DASH service at stations across the US, including Atlanta (ATL), Boston (BOS), Chicago (ORD), Cincinnati (CVG), Dallas–Fort Worth (DFW), Detroit (DTW), Fort Lauderdale (FLL), Honolulu (HNL), Los Angeles (LAX), New York–JFK (JFK), New York–LaGuardia (LGA), Orlando (MCO), Miami (MIA), Minneapolis–Saint Paul (MSP), Raleigh Durham (RDU), Seattle (SEA), San Francisco (SFO), Salt Lake City (SLC), and Tampa (TPA).
