Express parcel and freight logistics specialist Mark 3 International has expanded its warehousing capacity at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York to better serve US import business and meet increasing demand.

Mark 3 International, which operates primarily between the UK and the US and has warehousing and clearance facilities at Heathrow and JFK, has added a 12,000 sq ft facility at JFK.

David Taylor, global commercial director, said: “Our import business into the US has increased significantly over the last few years, and despite recent turbulence we have seen a surge in the number of new business opportunities. Taken together, the decision to build new capacity was easy.”

The new warehouse will become operational on 1 July. It will be used as a processing facility for import and export volumes as well as fulfilment (pallet storage).

Matthew Ware, who became Mark 3's chief executive last month, said: “This is really just the start. We have even more ambitious growth plans, including opening a similar facility at LAX airport in Los Angeles in the next 18 months.

“Expanding capacity and capability on the east and west coasts allows us to handle more imports into the US from both Asia and EMEA.”

Mark 3 has recently been focusing on expanding its e-commerce logistics business to wider geographical markets.

Ware added: “The recent changes, combined with this extra capacity at a critical trade hub, gives us the platform for rapidly extending our service offering to a much wider audience.

“Further capacity expansion on the US West Coast will complete the infrastructure picture.

“However, the final part of the equation will be when we upgrade our internal systems to cope with this ambitious growth plan. Then we will have the systems, processes, and structures in place to support a truly global operation.”

Hussein Hassan, recently promoted to global operations director, will be responsible for overseeing this upgrade to operational systems.
