Cargolux transports its heaviest single piece of cargo to China

Cargolux has successfully transported a shaft measuring 10 m in length from Luxembourg to Zhengzhou, China.

The shaft, which has a gross weight of 43 metric tonnes, is the largest item that Cargolux has transported to its Zhengzhou hub. It is also the heaviest single piece of cargo that the company has ever transported to mainland China.

Transportation of the shaft was organised on behalf of the newly founded HNCA Logistics (Luxembourg) in co-operation with their local partner European Logistics Partners (ELP).

Paul Hoffmann, director ground engineering, explained: “While Cargolux frequently transports very heavy cargo shipments, of up to 60 tonnes, throughout its global network, this specific shipment was special as it was the first time that a single piece of cargo weighing above 35,000kg was flown into Zhengzhou airport”.

A challenge of delivering very heavy cargo is that adapted offloading infrastructure upon arrival may not be available. Despite this, there has been a solid growth in demand for this kind of transport, which Cargolux has experience in and carries out with its CV Jumbo shipment service for large or unusual deliveries.
