AEROTUF to supply SONOCO ThermoSafe with new temperature-controlled Pegasus ULD

Sonoco ThermoSafe, a unit of Sonoco, has announced the creation of the passive, temperature-controlled Pegasus ULD that will be manufactured and supplied by AEROTUF.

The Pegasus ULD was specifically designed to fulfill a gap in the market for passive bulk packaging solutions. It utilises AEROTUF’s patented AeroTHERM composite material technology and is the first, passive bulk temperature-controlled container approved for pharmaceutical use.

The first Pegasus ULD model, to be launched in upcoming months, will be the lighter AKP size, which fits a full US pallet and shares the same footprint as the AKE size without the imbalanced overhang section, which accounts for over 80% of transit damage in AKE/RKN containers.

Christopher Day, director of marketing, innovation and business development at Sonoco ThermoSafe, said: “The rugged, lightweight composite design of this unit load device enables the pharmaceutical supply chain to cost-effectively ship globally across the Americas, EMEIA and Asia-Pacific regions.”

Adam Barrington-Spencer, vice president sales and marketing at AEROTUF, added: “We’re proud to announce this major milestone and long-term partnership with Sonoco ThermoSafe. We’re pleased to help Sonoco ThermoSafe create yet another industry first with this passive, temperature-controlled ULD solution.”

Tom Pherson, president, AEROTUF, commented: “This partnership with Sonoco underlines our commitment to making ULDs that do more than deliver just baggage and cargo. With our patented materials and expertise, we continue to innovate the ULD, delivering more versatile, damage-resistant solutions across the industry, and this new partnership will see us further expand the AeroTHERM range in 2020, helping to protect more temperature sensitive shipments.”
