DHL opens new freight hub near Hanover airport

Today (September 13) DHL Freight opened a new transhipment hub in the Airport Business Park in Langenhagen, near Hanover, Germany.

The 8,700 sq m hub has 86 loading bays where freight for ‘Euroconnect’ (an all-in-one groupage service) and ‘Eurarapid’ (a premium one day service) is sorted and dispatched by approximately 290 employees.

DHL Freight is also trialing new technologies at the Langenhagen hub, for example, automated weight, volume, and shipment data recording devices.

The opening ceremony was attended by, among others, Tim Scharwath, cheif executive of global forwarding, DHL Freight, and Uwe Brinks, chief executive DHL Freight.

Brinks commented: “The combination of a convenient location and innovative technologies makes this new future-oriented freight transshipment center an important growth driver within our network.”
