Swissport signs lease at new Melbourne Airport facility

Swissport has signed a seven-year lease to operate at a brand new air cargo facility at Melbourne Airport.

The new warehouse space on Mace Way, close to the airport, will offer state-of-the-art cargo facilities for the handling and storage of general cargo, animals, pharmaceuticals and perishables.

Fitting out of facility is underway and it is due to operan in the third quarter of 2020.

The facility will be overseen by Chris Doyle, Swissport’s new general manager of cargo, Pacific. Doyle has extensive experience in the industry, most recently as international cargo manager for a major airline.

Glenn Rutherford, executive vice president Asia-Pacific at Swissport, commented: “We are excited to serve new customers in Australia and look forward to adding Australia to our global cargo network for our existing global customers.”

Melbourne Airport senior property development manager, Gavin Potts, added: “We’re pleased to welcome Swissport to Melbourne Airport’s Business Park. The new facility joins other industrial leaders in benefiting from 24/7 air freight opportunities, round the clock security and unrivalled proximity to arterial road networks.”
