New digital platform launched for tracking cargo at hubs

A new platform that claims to allow freight forwarders, airlines, and ground handlers to get hands-free visibility of cargo and automate their warehouse operations has been launched.

The Cargocast platform tracks each cargo piece using RFID, pinpointing cargo in a warehouse within 2 ft radius.

“Using this location data, processes that previously required human interaction, such as goods acceptance, can be fully automated—which helps prevent errors and increase efficiency,” the company said.

Cargocast is backed by Tiger Global and its clients include a “leading European ground handler and a top-five freight forwarder”.

Cargocast chief executive, Dan Diephouse, commented: “We’ve developed proprietary processes and technology that leverage the latest advances in RFID to achieve levels of accuracy that were never before possible.”

Diephouse is joined at the company by Mike Morey, an industry veteran and former director of cargo for Air Canada.

“Everyone knows that real-time, piece-level tracking is the future, but very few companies have been able to get there without a massive rip and replacement of their existing systems and processes,” said Morey.

Added Diephouse: “Digitisation of cargo operations is non-optional if logistics providers want to meet the quality and speed needs of today’s shippers.”
