Swissport selects Lödige to carry out cargo handling at Frankfurt

Lödige Industries is to provide the cargo handling system for Swissport’s new cargo terminal at Frankfurt Cargo City Süd.

The Germany-headquartered firm said it has begun production of “a space-saving and fast automated storage and retrieval system for 115 main deck unit load devices (ULDs) over two levels with an upgrade option to implement three levels operated by two of Lödige’s proven 15 ft elevating transfer vehicles”.

Lödige director airport logistics solutions Björn Ussat added: “We’re very pleased to support Swissport’s impressive growth goals with an airfreight handling system that we know will deliver on their speed, reliability and efficiency targets for years to come and which will ultimately facilitate cargo flows through Frankfurt airport.”

Construction of Swissport’s new warehouse is well underway, with handover scheduled for the autumn of 2020. It will have a surface area of around 16,000 sq m, plus an additional 2,260 sq m of office and social space.
