Cargo demand pushes Delta to reignite Europe passenger services

Delta Air Lines said that demand for its cargo services has driven it to bring back passenger services from the US to Germany and the UK.

From May 21, three times per week, Delta will operate flights to Frankfurt and London from Atlanta and Detroit. The flights will transport cargo in the bellyhold and will also be available for customer travel – for the first time since the coronavirus outbreak.

Cargo will be transported on the routes between Los Angeles and Frankfurt, via Atlanta; and between Chicago and London via Detroit.

Delta will utilise an Airbus A330-300 aircraft with 31 tonnes of cargo capacity for the Frankfurt service. On the London route, it will use a Boeing 767-300 with 26 tonnes of cargo capacity.

Shawn Cole, vice president of Delta Cargo, commented: “We’re receiving daily requests for shipments of medical supplies as well as goods that keep businesses in operation. By also opening these services to passengers, we can facilitate essential travel between Europe and US.”

From May 16, subject to government approval, Delta Cargo is also launching scheduled cargo-only flights from New York JFK to Mumbai, India.
