Volga-Dnepr and Scan Global deliver vaccines to Turkmenistan

Volga-Dnepr Group and Scan Global Logistics have teamed up as part of a UN vaccination programme to deliver 80 cu m of vaccines and medical supplies to Turkmenistan.

Vials containing vital Diphteria/Hepatitis and BCG vaccine doses, as well as other medical supplies, were transported under temperature-controlled conditions on two charter flights from Leipzig β€” where Volga-Dnepr Group has an operational charter base.

The first charter flight was operated by Volga-Dnepr Airlines utilising an IL-76TD-90VD aircraft; the second was operated by ATRAN Airlines utilising a Boeing 737-400SF.

“The consolidated cargo was delivered from all parts of Europe to Leipzig Airport for the [charter] flight departures,” said a spokesperson for Volga-Dnepr Group. “Load-plans were drawn up by the load engineers of Volga-Dnepr and ATRAN, in conjunction with Scan Global Logistic team and the GHA in Leipzig”.

Stuart Smith, global director humanitarian/emergency response at Volga-Dnepr Group, commented: β€œThe effect of Covid-19 on global supply chains and wider humanitarian and health immunisation programs cannot be underestimated. The decline in global aviation capacity because of Covid-19 has meant that many development organisations have needed to re-think their logistics for their ongoing in-country programme.”

Ragnar Dalen, Regional chief executive of continental Europe air and ocean at Scan Global Logistics, added: “With this charter shipment we once again demonstrate our ability and willingness to always walk the extra mile to find the right solution.

“We were very happy to partner with Volga-Dnepr Group and using our skilled specialists and proud problem-solvers who live to remove complexity, we were able to succeed β€” even in times of uncertainty”.
