MASKargo delivers Pfizer vaccines to Malaysia

For the first time, Malaysia Aviation Group’s cargo subsidiary MASKargo has carried Pfizer Covid-19 vaccines on a flight to Malaysia.

More than 300,000 doses of the vaccine were transported in the bellyhold of an Airbus 330-300 aircraft.

A logistical challenge of the Pfizer vaccine is that it needs to be stored at temperatures of -70 degrees Celsius. MASKargo said it collaborated with Malaysia’s Ministry of Science, Technology & Innovation, Ministry of Transport; Ministry of Health; Pfizer and DHL Express to carry transport the vaccines under the required conditions.

Izham Ismail, chief executive officer of Malaysia Aviation Group, commented: “Despite being very experienced in handling time and temperature-sensitive items, we still worked hard at preparing the organisation in this highly complex and demanding task to ensure seamless end-to-end execution. Our skilled workforce and adequate infrastructure are vital points in ensuring the safe, secure and hygienic handling, transportation and distribution of the Covid-19 vaccine to Malaysia or any part of the world.”

“We are proud to be able to serve the country in this very important mission, as Malaysians and residents look forward to receiving their [vaccine] dose under the national vaccination programme.

He added: “We are satisfied that today’s mission was successfully completed, with the strong support of the respective ministries and partners. We look forward to similar missions in future, making good use of our extensive global freight network and expertise in ensuring the successful shipment of Covid-19 vaccines.”

Prior to the flight carrying Pfizer vaccines, MASKargo conducted live simulations and dry runs during on its international and domestic scheduled flights in preparation for the distribution of different types of Covid-19 vaccines.
