Lufthansa Cargo has ordered another production B777 freighter as it continues with its fleet renewal.

The 103 tonne capacity aircraft will be delivered by the end of the year and when delivered will be the airline’s eleventh of the model. It also sells the capacity on four B777 freighters operated by its AeroLogic joint venture with DHL.

“We are very pleased that we will be able to offer our customers additional freighter capacity in the future. The Corona crisis has impressively underlined how important these aircraft are for global supply,” said Dorothea von Boxberg, Lufthansa Cargo chief executive.

The freighter is the second B777F order announced this year by Lufthansa Cargo – it announced the first addition back in March.

The aircraft announced in March is scheduled to arrive in Frankfurt by autumn 2021 and will be stationed there.

According to its website, Lufthansa Cargo also continues to operate three MD-11F aircraft.

Lufthansa had been hoping to have retired the model from its fleet by now, but took the decision to the delay the move at the outset of the Covid-19 outbreak in order to secure cargo capacity.
